Falcon Valley    Map    Google Map

Falcon Valley is one of the wildest ravines in the Slovak Paradise. It is situated at the northern end of the Gľac plateau.
It has been discovered almost as the last one. The first passage (in both directions) was successfully realised in April 1910. L. Rokfalussy with fellows hiked the ravine ascending up from the lowest point while A. Mervay and his fellows hiked it descending down from the Gľac plateau. The first passage in winter season was recorded in 1912. The path was marked for tourists in 1913 for the first time. Between the years of 1979 and 1981 it was changed completely. The most important was the change of the route at the Závojový waterfall (the highest waterfall in the Slovak Paradise). Instead of bypassing the waterfall as it was in past, today, you can hike through the waterfall directly climbing over more than 80 m of ladders and clenches.
The order of waterfalls by hiking the valley: Bočný, Skalný, Závojový and Vyšný waterfall.

ACCESS: On foot from Spišská Nová Ves, Smižany through Čingov, or from Dedinky.
SURROUNDINGS: Gľac, Kláštorisko, Podlesok, Geravy, Klauzy, Biely potok (White Creek) Valley, Prielom Hornádu (Hornád Canyon) and Čingov.
